Alyssa Breid, a classically-trained flutist, has beautifully transitioned her artistic expression into the realm of minimalist textiles. With a foundation in music, Breid's work echoes the precision and fluidity of her musical background, allowing her to create pieces that resonate with both harmony and subtlety. Breid's artistic journey is deeply influenced by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, which cherishes imperfection and the beauty of transience, as well as the Scandinavian notion of hygge, which emphasizes comfort and coziness. This unique blend of philosophies manifests in her artwork as intricate yet spontaneous compositions that invite viewers into a space of reflection and warmth.
Breid's works have been featured in prestigious publications such as the Netherlands' design magazine VTWonen and CULTURED Magazine, highlighting her impact and growing influence in the art and design communities. Additionally, her pieces are prominently showcased in various international interior designs, where they add a touch of elegance and intimacy to modern spaces.
Alyssa Breid continues to explore the intersection of music and visual art, creating woven masterpieces that embody a delicate balance of detail and serenity, capturing the essence of her inspirations and leaving a lasting impression on those who encounter her work.

About
Biography
Born and raised in Titusville, Florida, Alyssa Breid has been immersed in the arts and creative process from a very young age. She studied as a classical flutist, receiving a BM from the Eastman School of Music and an MM from New England Conservatory and has performed in concert halls across the United States. A desire for more artistic freedom led Alyssa to begin painting and she found her medium in handwoven, minimalist textile weaving.. Influenced by the work of Sheila Hicks and Japanese artistic practices, Alyssa creates practice-focused minimalist canvases. Alyssa has received grants from Baltimore’s Station North Arts Council and has been featured in the Netherland’s design magazine VTWonen and CULTURED Magazine. Her pieces are featured in numerous international interior designs.
Statement
I feel a deep connection between my practice and the environment that I am in. I cherish home as an idea that it is a place not only of comfort and serenity but also control. It is my haven against the unpredictability and lurking chaos of the outside world. This sense of clarity and order is something that I look to bring forth in my work. Through the minimal simplicity of my weavings I aim to bring that sense of calm and comfort into other spaces as well. It is through this mindset, and with a nod to tapestry making, that my weaving came about. The method for weaving is very repetitive and time consuming but to me, it brings a sense of zen. I feel that I am a part of a tradition that generations before me have done, working with thread, working with their hands. It is my goal to carry on this tradition, but in a new way.
